Peter Gilman
Peter Gilman is a Senior Scientist Emeritus in the High Altitude Observatory at NCAR specializing in the fluid dynamics and magneto-fluid dynamics of the Sun and stars. His current interest focuses on the hydrodynamics and magneto hydrodynamics of the solar tachocline. Peter was the first HAO scientist to win the prestigious Hale Prize from the American Astronomical Society in 2006 and the first HAO scientist to be chosen to be a Fellow of the American Astronomical Society (2020.)
Peter arrived at NCAR in 1969 and became a senior scientist in 1973. He has served as HAO director and NCAR associate director. His extensive community experience includes serving as the first chair of the solar observatory council of AURA, and a six-year term on the AURA Board.
